The JKC Team Is Growing!

Ladies and gentlemen, please join me in welcoming the newest addition to the JKC VIDEO team, Mo Herbert!

Why Hire Now?

I had A LOT of client work lined up as 2021 was kicking off and I could’ve either stuck to the tried and true method of contracting help when needed or I could’ve hired someone to become a legitimate part of the team. I saw the amount of guaranteed work on the horizon as a way to finally hire another team member which would prove helpful for both the client work as well as my JKC branded content. Mo’s skillset is similar to my own, she’s an excellent all around asset on set and is a phenomenal editor - she even edited the official new hire announcement video below!

Though we are only now announcing it, Mo started work at the beginning of 2021 and she’s already been an essential team member by leading both production days and editing projects!

Still reading and ready to get a bit meta? If you’re familiar with my content then you know that I am all about telling your own story. If you haven’t seen any of my content on this, here’s a video to get your self marketing interest kick started! Back to the topic at hand - I’m a big fan of creatives telling their own story and Mo did precisely that. Mo posts a lot of content that she creates for clients and for her band, Mount Planet, so when I saw her publicly share that she was seeking new opportunities, I was already very familiar with her work and knew that our styles would match well. She essentially skipped the interview stage by successfully sharing her story which is quite honestly how most of our industry works. I never posted a formal job listing, I simply knew what I needed and was familiar with Mo’s awesome work!

Even More Meta

You may be wondering, “How did Jacob know Mo to begin with?” I met Mo through my graduate program, Communication Leadership at the University of Washington. Mo was a few cohorts after my time but her terrific storytelling skills stood out and I knew that we’d be collaborating one day, I just didn’t realize it would entail me hiring her! I bring up how I know Mo because this is yet another one of the topics that I’ve discussed in my videos - it’s all about who you know. We can’t simply be creatives in isolation, we need to get outside of our comfort zone and pursue education, network, create passion projects, and tell our stories so that others can hire us!

I’ll definitely make a deep dive video breaking down all of this in more detail because it’s such a great and natural example of how getting yourself out there really does make a difference. If you want to be notified when that video releases, subscribe below!

I strive to transparently show how the magical on-screen moments are made. If you want to see more of this content, there are two ways for you to stay in the loop:
