In 2019 I had the pleasure of being lead cinematographer on a branded series of recruitment videos for the University of Washington (UW). Not only am I proud of my camera work featured in this series but I am a 3-time graduate of UW and I am beyond proud to call myself a Husky.

In this case study I will be breaking down what all went into the video and provide an insider’s perspective of how much work truly goes into a video of this magnitude, but first enjoy the main video below.

What was my role?

The UW College of Arts & Sciences has a top notch marketing team that brought me on to give their vision life. They already had a solid script, were incredibly organized, and wanted to shoot for the moon.

The logistics for this project were insane. We were tasked with capturing the University of Washington as a whole and needed to highlight the multitude of majors and cultures present at the university.

GRAPHIC: Filming for this series took place over the course of X days, at X locations, and with X actors.

There was so much scheduling to be done that my company brought on a full time producer for 3 months in order to handle the capacity of the project.

What gear did we use?

We shot all of our footage on the GH5, which is a light and powerful 4K camera, perfect for the speed of the shots we needed to capture. Most shots have some level of movement present in them, which is provided by the smooth corrections of the Ronin-M. These days of production were incredibly fast paced and I required a rig that wouldn’t slow me down - sometimes we even jogged between locations because we had so much to do!

My favorite shots:

Though there are some truly great shots in this piece, here are a few of my favorites:
